Malaysia Airlines New Aircraft Acquisition to Improve Operations
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airlines is making a significant move to upgrade its fleet by acquiring 30 new aircraft, with an option to purchase an additional 30 in the coming years. This decision is part of the airline’s long-term strategy to enhance efficiency and prevent the operational challenges it faced in the past.
Malaysia Aviation Group managing director Captain Datuk Izham Ismail stated that the new planes include 18 Boeing 737-8 and 12 Boeing 737-10 models, all equipped with CFM International LEAP-18 engines. These modern aircraft will provide better fuel efficiency and improved overall performance.
Delivery Schedule and Operational Benefits
Speaking at a formal document exchange ceremony with The Boeing Company on Friday (March 21), Izham announced that 11 of these aircraft have already been delivered, while the rest are set to arrive progressively by 2027. He stressed that fleet modernization is crucial in avoiding issues caused by ageing aircraft and supply chain disruptions.
“Ordering new planes at the right time is key to avoiding the difficulties we faced last year. Careful planning will help Malaysia Airlines improve reliability and ensure smooth operations for passengers,” he said.
